Ocean Springs has always been tied to the sea. In the early 1900s, the original Eagle Point Oyster Company became a shining example of that connection. Nestled near Marsh Point by Davis Bayou, the company cultivated oysters in the nutrient-rich waters where the Mississippi Sound meets the Gulf of Mexico.
These oysters quickly gained a reputation for exceptional flavor and quality. At a time when Gulf Coast seafood was booming, Eagle Point helped establish Ocean Springs and Biloxi as major centers for oyster harvesting and processing. Oystermen hauled in baskets full of the prized shellfish, feeding both local markets and distant cities.
Carrying that tradition forward, a new Eagle Point Oyster Co. began in November 2021. The founders named it simply for its location off Eagle Point Road, unaware of the historical overlap. Only later did they discover the coincidence: more than a century earlier, another company with the same name had thrived nearby. What began as chance became a meaningful connection between past and present.
Today, the modern operation continues the legacy of quality, producing artisanal oysters through sustainable practices that protect and preserve the coastal ecosystem. From rustic oyster shacks of the past to farm-to-table dining today, Eagle Point remains a proud part of the Gulf Coast’s maritime heritage—a taste of history still thriving on the half shell.
